When Jacob and I first started dating, he told me he had a big family with a lot of kids around Abby’s age. At that moment, I don’t think I could have ever truly anticipated the profound, life-altering impact those words would have on my life, and more importantly, on Abby’s.

Abby has always taken the long, scenic route when it comes to navigating this world. Whether it was communicating, socializing, or opening up to make friends, things didn't always come easily for her. As a mother, you watch your child face those hurdles, and your heart aches wishing you could just smooth out the road ahead of them. But today, I want to express just how much our "Flower Patrol" girls, Ny'lea Nolin and KK Crum, mean to us. 

From the very beginning, these two beautiful souls didn't see barriers; they just saw Abby. They took her in as family instantly. Watching them patiently teach her things, wrap her in unconditional love, fiercely protect her, and gently guide her showed Abby what true friendship really means.

Because of that love, we have watched a miracle unfold. Over the past couple of years, Abby hasn't just improved—she has soared. She has exceeded every single goal ever set for her, completely shattering the obstacles I was once told she might always struggle with. To see her excelling in life, finding her voice, and laughing with a confidence I used to only pray for is an emotion so deep it tears at my heart in the most beautiful way.

Yes, she has had incredible teachers and dedicated therapists in her corner, but there is a magic in the love of other children that no adult or medical professional can replicate. Realizing that it just took the pure, open hearts of Ny'lea and KK to break down those walls and help Abby blossom is more incredible than words can ever explain. I cannot imagine our world without these two girls in it. They might not ever truly understand the powerful, permanent impact they have made on Abby's life and my heart, but I will carry a debt of gratitude to them for the rest of my days. I love these girls so much, and I am so profoundly proud to official become family with them.
